STEPPED TERRACE GARDEN

The main entry is accessed through a stepped breezeway from the new drive court at street level for this San Francisco residence. A series of large stepping stones flank a shallow Japanese soaking tub, known as an ‘Onsen'. A series of stair / retaining walls transition to the upper terrace with a steel bridge that connects to the upper level of the house. Many of the new materials for the house remodel were integrated into the landscape, such as the narrow burnt wood screen known as 'Shou Sugi Ban'. Over time, a verdant green ‘primordial’ landscape will offset from the nature of the dark stone materials.
